Step 1: Look up your OT/OTA license.

To begin the process, I always double-check that my license is displaying correctly. You can look up your Kentucky occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant license here.

Step 2: Confirm the Kentucky OT continuing education requirements.

It’s always good to double check for any updates to your 2025 licensing cycle. (One year, I completed ALL of my state of Nebraska requirements only to find out that they were waived due to COVID. 😭)

To get you going here is the information I found, with links to where I found it.

Here are the basic OT/OTA CCU requirements in Kentucky:

Attestation of completion due at time of license renewal, annually by October 31

How many hours are required?

  • OTs/OTAs need 12 continuing competence units each year
    • 1 unit = 1 contact hour, for most activities

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 12 continuing competence units in the 12 months prior to renewal
  • OTPs licensed for less than 1 year are only required to complete 1 CCU per month licensed prior to renewal
  • Complete a training program in suicide assessment, treatment, and management every 6 years

You may be audited and asked to submit proof of CEU completion, so hold on to your course certificates for at least 1 year after you renew.
