Step 1: Look up your OT/OTA license.

To begin the process, I always double-check that my license is displaying correctly. You can look up your Maryland occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant license here.

Step 2: Confirm the Maryland OT continuing competency requirements (CCR)

It’s always good to double check for any updates to your 2025 licensing cycle. (One year, I completed ALL of my state of Nebraska requirements only to find out that they were waived due to COVID. 😭)

To get you going here is the information I found, with links to where I found it.

Here are the basic OT/OTA Continuing Competence Requirements (CCR) in Maryland:

  • Attestation of completion due at time of license renewal.
    • Licensees originially licensed in even-numbered years renew by June 30th of even years.
    • Licensees originially licensed in odd-numbered years renew by June 30th of odd years.
    • No continuing education is required for therapists in their first year of licensure.

How many hours are required?

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 16 contact hours must be related to occupational therapy principles and procedures (i.e. directly applicable to the delivery of OT)
  • Maximum of 8 contact hours can be earned through occupational therapy role-related activities (i.e. administration and management, billing and regulatory issues)

You may be audited and asked to submit proof of CEU completion, so hold on to your course certificates for at least 4 years after you renew.
