Participation Assessment and Recombined Tools (PART-O)
What It Measures
The PART-O measures participation — whether a person is actually taking part in life after a brain injury, out in the community rather than in a clinic. It was assembled from the best items of three existing participation measures rather than built from scratch.
Seventeen questions cover three areas. Productivity asks about paid work, school, and running a household. Social Relations asks about time with friends and family and intimate relationships. Out and About asks about leisure and civic activity in the community. Answers are frequency-based, and each domain averages to a score from 0 to 5. Higher means more participation.

Learn More: Two total scores exist and they answer different questions. The Averaged Total is the mean of the three domain scores and indicates how much a person participates overall. The Balanced Total reflects whether participation is spread evenly across the three domains — someone highly productive but socially isolated scores differently on the two.
