SCI Falls Concern Scale (SCI-FCS)
What It Measures
The SCI-FCS asks a manual wheelchair user how worried they are about falling. Fear of falling is well studied in older adults who walk, and much less so in people who do not — yet a fall from a wheelchair during a transfer is a real and frequent event, and worry about it changes what a person is willing to do.
Sixteen everyday activities are rated from not at all concerned to very concerned. They cover transfers into and out of the chair, reaching for and handling objects, and pushing the chair on different surfaces. Totals run 16 to 64, and lower means less concern about falling.
