CE Broker Explained: Continuing Education Tracking
License renewal for clinicians entails multiple hoops to jump through—and for clinicians in some states, one of these hoops is reporting your hours to CE Broker. On one hand, this is helpful because it automates tracking your CE requirements. But, on the other hand, it is also one more hoop. In this post, we’ll explain what CE Broker is and how to use it if you need to.
Again, this is just one piece of the puzzle. For a complete look at your renewal obligations, explore this comprehensive guide to OT continuing education requirements by state.
What is CE Broker?
CE Broker is an automated system for tracking continuing education (CE) requirements. It acts as a digital intermediary, ensuring that the courses you complete are accurately reported and verified for license renewal.
While CE Broker states that it tracks for over 350+ unique professions—ranging from Physical Therapy (PT) and Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) to Nursing and specialized medical boards—its usage is highly dependent on state regulations.
How Much Does CE Broker Cost? (Is it Free?)
The system uses a “Freemium” model. While they heavily promote their paid tiers, the Basic Account is 100% Free.
As an OT Potential Club member, the Free Basic Account is all you need. Because we handle the heavy lifting of reporting for you, there is no need to pay for their premium tracking tools.
Does OT Potential report my courses to CE Broker? Yes.
We report completions for both our Live OT CEU Webinars and our On-Demand Podcast Courses every 24 hours.
Our CE Broker Provider Number: 50-33236

Automated Tracking: As long as your license number is correctly saved in your OT Potential profile, your hours will be sent automatically.
A Common Struggle: Finding Your License Number
One of the most common reasons reporting fails is a missing or incorrect license number. If you aren’t sure of your official number or expiration date, visit our individual state OT CEU guides. We have included direct instructions for each state on how to use their official lookup tools to find your credentials in seconds.
Which States Use CE Broker for Occupational Therapy?
Currently, reporting to CE Broker is a requirement for the following 14 states. Below, you’ll find links to the official state boards alongside our own detailed guides to help you find your license number and specific requirements:

Should I use CE Broker if my state doesn’t require it? Generally, no.
Unless your state board specifically mandates its use for auditing, the technology can feel dated and manual entry is a hassle. For your own records, the OT Potential dashboard is a much more user-friendly way to track and store your certificates.
A Note on the NBCOT® and CE Broker Relationship
In late 2021, NBCOT announced a relationship with CE Broker intended to streamline the audit process. However, the technical “bridge” between the two systems is often unreliable for automated transcript updates.
If you are preparing for your national certification renewal, we highly recommend reading our deep dive on NBCOT renewal and continuing to manually log your hours.
