Full OT/OTA CEU Requirements in Michigan

Here are the occupational therapy continuing education requirements for coursework in Michigan:

Continuing Education (CE) Requirement:

During the 2 years preceding the application for renewal, successful completion of 20 hours of continuing education that are approved by the board. A minimum of 1 hour of the required continuing education must be earned in the area of pain and symptom management.

Human Trafficking – Licensees seeking renewal must certify on their renewal applications that prior to renewing their license they have completed a one-time training in identifying victims of human trafficking that meets the standards in Administrative Rule 338.1215.

Implicit Bias Training – Licensees and registrants are required to complete 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of their license or registration cycle. Please note this is not a one-time training and must be completed for each renewal cycle prior to the renewal being completed.

Steps for Renewing Your OT License

Step 1: Look up your OT/OTA license.

Step 2: Confirm the Michigan OT continuing education requirements. 

It’s always good to double check for any updates to your licensing cycle. You can do so with the resources above. And, please reach out to me if you see any discrepancies.

Step 3: Earn your CEU hours.

Ok, now that you know your requirements, it is time to start earning those CEUs! There are of course a lot of options out there, but we hope you consider checking out the courses offered by OT Potential.

Yes! You can earn 10 credit hours through OT Potential on-demand podcast courses, as outlined above in the state rules as "approved continuing education program or activity related to the practice of occupational therapy." You can also earn your additional 10 “live, synchronous, and interactive courses” credit hours by attending our weekly live webinars!

OT Potential also offers courses to meet the required topics of pain and symptom management and implicit bias training (as confirmed by the MI OT licensing office on 2/26/2025.)

Please note: OT Potential does not currently offer courses on identifying victims of human trafficking, a one-time required training which is separate from the 20 required continuing education hours.
