Melina McSweeny

As a recent graduate of Xavier University, I am looking toward an occupational therapy doctorate (OTD) graduate school as my next step in pursuing a career in occupational therapy. I am passionate about helping others, returning meaning to people's lives, and giving people back quality of life. I look forward to working in many different populations and settings that the diverse field of occupational therapy offers. I am especially excited to work with children and older adults. I find both populations fascinating, unique, and special. Because of my large family, I understand the value older people play in society and in the lives of their loved ones. Because of my recent internship at ABC Pediatric Therapy, I have learned more about caring for children with many different diagnoses or deficits. My internship used a "therapy through play" method which has allowed me to recognize the importance of all children having childhoods. Even though they do work hard to achieve the goals their OTs set for them, seeing the kids achieve them in a fun and playful way has been a rewarding experience. I am a compassionate, organized, and creative individual and I know these qualities will set me up for success in both populations as an occupational therapist.
