What It Measures

The REAL™ may be used as a screening tool. It comprises two domains: activities of daily living (ADLs) and independent activities of daily living (IADLs). Benefits include: 1.) Determining the need for skilled and supportive services. 2.) Developing individual educational plans (IEPs) and choosing intervention services. 3.) Making decisions on placement and living arrangements.4.) Evaluating programs, with measurement of participants’ abilities prior to and after a program. 5.)Conducting research projects on child development and skill attainment.
