Worker Role Interview
What It Measures
The Worker Role Interview (WRI) looks at the personal and environmental factors that affect someone's ability to get or keep a job, including things like confidence, motivation, daily routines, and workplace support, rather than physical work capacity itself. It's a semi-structured interview that a professional rates afterward across 16 variables grouped into six areas: self-perception of ability, values, interests, roles, habits, and environment.
The WRI is grounded in the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and is used by occupational therapists in community-based, mental health, and school settings with adolescents and adults, often alongside physical or work-capacity assessments to build a fuller picture of return-to-work readiness. Administrators should read the manual and have working familiarity with MOHO before using it clinically.
