Audience / Education Level & Course Completion Requirements

Our target audience is therapy professionals who are looking to learn more about this topic. The educational level is introductory. In order to receive a certificate for this course, you must first participate in the podcast/webinar in its entirety. Then, you will need to take the quiz that will accompany the course and earn 75% or higher. If you pass, a PDF certificate will be made available to you via email and download. Quizzes for live (distance learning–interactive) webinars must be completed within 3 days of completing the webinar.

Dawn Heiderscheidt, has extensive experience in the field. With nearly 10 years of dedicated service, Dawn’s diverse skill set empowers her to navigate the intricate relationship between individual capabilities and environmental factors, ensuring comprehensive and effective care. Driven by an unwavering commitment to helping individuals achieve independence and enhance their quality of life, Dawn courageously established her own company, Aurora Independence. Through strategic partnerships with local non-medical home health companies, Foundations, and nonprofits, Dawn serves as Program Admin/Lead OT for a CAPABLE program, and runs her own company, while also acting as a Wellness and Prevention Specialist with UUH Outreach. Her visionary leadership has propelled Aurora Independence to the forefront of the industry, offering tailored solutions that foster independence and well-being. Dawn actively contributes to the advancement of her profession in many ways.  She is a District V recorder for the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association (POTA) and also works as a National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) instructor for the esteemed Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) program.  She is also a NARI ( National Association of Remodeling Industry) member. She regularly imparts her knowledge and expertise to aspiring professionals. Furthermore, Dawn serves as a National Continuing Education Provider, equipping professionals with the skills needed to create accessible and safe living environments for individuals of all ages and abilities which resonates greatly with her background as a teacher. Dawn firmly believes that enabling independence and improving the home environment is the key to empowering seniors and individuals with disabilities to thrive in their own homes.

Sarah Lyon, OTR/L, is the CEO of OT Potential. Sarah earned her BA from St. Olaf College and her master’s degree in occupational therapy from New York University. Her diverse clinical background spans multiple settings, including critical access, acute trauma, and state inpatient psychiatric hospitals. In 2011, she founded OT Potential to fulfill the industry's need for reliable, high-quality occupational therapy resources and continuing education.

As a recognized content creator, Sarah has collaborated with top healthcare brands like VeryWell Health, WebPT, and MedBridge. She blends her clinical expertise with a talent for creating clear, action-oriented content that empowers practitioners to excel. Passionate about elevating the OT profession, she has been featured on numerous industry podcasts. Sarah ultimately returned to her roots, running OT Potential and raising her family in her hometown of Aurora, Nebraska.
