MS Quality of Life 54 (MSQOL 54)
What It Measures
The MSQOL-54 asks how multiple sclerosis is affecting a person's life across the whole range of things MS touches. It was built by taking a well-established general health questionnaire, the SF-36, and adding eighteen questions about the problems people with MS actually raise — fatigue, thinking, sexual function, and the distress of living with the disease.
Fifty-four items produce twelve subscale scores: physical function, role limitations from physical and from emotional problems, pain, emotional wellbeing, energy, health perceptions, social function, cognitive function, health distress, overall quality of life, and sexual function. Two composites summarise physical and mental health. Every score runs 0 to 100, where 100 is best. Most questions ask about the past four weeks.
