What It Measures

The PROMIS Mobility assessment is a standardized self-report instrument developed under the National Institutes of Health (NIH) PROMIS initiative to isolate the lower-extremity subdomain of physical function: walking, climbing stairs, and other movement-dependent activities. Items are drawn from the broader PROMIS Physical Function bank, allowing mobility-specific tracking without administering the full instrument.

The Mobility bank consists of 44 items, all sourced from the PROMIS Physical Function bank. Respondents rate perceived capability rather than observed performance, and results are reported on a population-normed T-score metric centered at 50, where higher scores indicate better function. Its brevity supports repeat administration in community-based and telehealth caseloads, including longitudinal tracking following traumatic brain injury.

PROMIS Global Health-10 is officially listed in the HealthMeasures library as the PROMIS Bank v2.1 – Mobility
