The Short Child Occupational Profile (SCOPE)

The Short Child Occupational Profile (SCOPE) helps a therapist build a picture of how a child takes part in everyday activities at home, at school, and with others. SCOPE looks at what motivates the child, their daily habits and routines, their skills, and how supportive their surroundings are. Rather than comparing a child to same-age peers, it looks at each child's own developmental path to spot both strengths and challenges.

Built on the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO), the SCOPE has 25 items across six sections: volition, habituation, communication/interaction skills, process skills, motor skills, and environment. Each section is rated on how much it facilitates or restricts participation. Occupational therapists use it with children and adolescents from birth to 21 years old in outpatient and school-based settings, often with autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, or other developmental differences, to guide occupation-focused goal-setting and share a clear picture of the child's participation with caregivers and other team members.
