What It Measures

The Model of Human Occupation Screening Tool (MOHOST) gives a therapist a broad picture of how well someone is functioning across everyday life including their motivation to engage in activities, their daily routines and habits, how they communicate and interact with others, their thinking and physical skills, and how supportive their environment is.

Grounded in the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO), the MOHOST has 24 items across six areas: volition, habituation, communication/interaction skills, process skills, motor skills, and environment. Each area is rated on a 4-point scale from "restricts" to "facilitates" occupational participation. Occupational therapists use it with adults and older adults in mental health and outpatient settings, often with anxiety, depression, chronic conditions, or trauma-related conditions, both to screen for occupational therapy needs and to document progress toward treatment goals over time.
