Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile
What It Measures
The Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile is a self-report questionnaire that describes how a person typically responds to everyday sensory input — sound, light, touch, movement, taste and smell, and activity level. It asks how often each response happens in general to gain a greater understanding of the persons whole experience, rather than a specific day, making it a useful tool for planning intervnetions.
Sixty items, 15 per quadrant, sort into the four patterns in Dunn's model of sensory processing: low registration, sensation seeking, sensory sensitivity, and sensation avoiding. Raw scores are compared against norms, comparing a person's experience to their peers. Occupational therapists and mental health clinicians use the resulting profile to explain why certain environments help or hinder daily performance.
