Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System for Infants and Children
What It Measures
AEPS-3 is a curriculum-based assessment for children from birth to age 6, designed so that what you find in the assessment feeds directly into what you teach next. Rather than a set of test items administered at a table, it is an observational tool: professionals watch and record what a child does during ordinary routines, with input from family members.
The test covers eight areas — fine motor, gross motor, adaptive, social-emotional, social-communication, cognitive, literacy, and math — across one continuous span with no break between age levels. Because it is criterion-referenced rather than norm-referenced, results describe which specific skills a child has and which come next, which is what makes it usable for writing IFSP and IEP goals and for monitoring progress over time.
