Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency | Second Edition (BOT™-2)

The Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, Second Edition (BOT-2) measures how well a child or young adult moves, from threading a needle to catching a ball to standing on one leg. Tasks are goal-directed and game-like, which keeps a long session workable with young children.

Fifty-three items span eight subtests grouped into four areas: fine manual control (fine motor precision, fine motor integration), manual coordination (manual dexterity, upper-limb coordination), body coordination (bilateral coordination, balance), and strength and agility (running speed and agility, strength). Scores yield a Total Motor Composite plus the four area composites, compared against norms for ages 4 through 21. Comparing the four areas against each other is often more useful than the total, since an uneven profile points to where to intervene.

Note that a third edition (BOT-3) has been released, so anyone purchasing new should check which edition their setting requires.

Learn More: Four administration options exist, which is what drives the CSV's 15-to-60-minute range. The Complete Form (all 53 items) is the most reliable and the preferred option. The Short Form (14 items) is for screening or program evaluation. Select Composites or Select Subtests can be administered when only part of the picture is needed. A separate Brief Form (12 items, one from each subtest) is sold as its own product. Separate Fine-Motor and Gross-Motor kits are also available, with a manual supplement required to score them.
