What It Measures
The PDMS-2 measures how a young child's motor skills compare with other children the same age, covering birth through five years in one assessment.
Six subtests span both halves of motor development. Reflexes looks at automatic reactions and is given only to infants under twelve months, since reflexes normally integrate by then. Stationary covers body control and balance. Locomotion covers crawling, walking, running, and jumping. Object Manipulation covers catching, throwing, and kicking, and starts at twelve months. On the fine motor side, Grasping covers hand use and Visual-Motor Integration covers coordinating what the eyes see with what the hands do. Results come as Gross Motor, Fine Motor, and Total Motor Quotients.
