Patient-Rated Ulnar Nerve Evaluation (PRUNE)
What It Measures
The Patient-Rated Ulnar Nerve Evaluation (PRUNE) is a questionnaire for people with ulnar nerve compression at the elbow, often called cubital tunnel syndrome. Its 20 questions cover the past week in four groups: six about pain, four about nerve symptoms such as numbness, tingling, and hand weakness, six about specific tasks like carrying a heavy object, and four about usual activities, including personal care, household work, job, and recreation.
Each item is rated from 0 (none or no difficulty) to 10 (worst possible or completely unable). Subscale scores are added into a total scaled 0 to 100, with symptoms and function weighted equally. The minimal detectable change is about seven points. Hand therapists use it to track recovery after conservative care or nerve transposition surgery.
