What It Measures

The PRWE is a 15The PRWE asks a person how much their wrist hurts and what it is stopping them from doing. It was built specifically for the wrist, which makes it more sensitive to wrist problems than a general upper limb measure.

Fifteen questions split into two halves. Five pain items ask about pain at rest, with repeated movement, when lifting a heavy object, at its worst, and how often it occurs. Ten function items ask about specific activities — turning a doorknob, cutting meat, fastening buttons, using the bathroom — and about usual activities like personal care, household work, and recreation. Everything is rated 0 to 10, and the two halves weight equally into a total from 0 to 100. Lower is better.
