My process:
1. Listen first.
2. Assess the home environment.
3. Recommend home modifications that promote safety, function, and beauty.
4. Consider lifestyle and promote simple daily habits that cultivate lasting health and longevity.
5. Follow up.
Let's face it. The status quo is not working. Traditional homes are not designed with older adults in mind. 90% of adults want to remain in their homes as they age, yet only 9% of homes are set up to support this. Our healthcare system is reactive instead of proactive. It's set up for disease management rather than promoting health. And the elephant in the room: Our typical modern lifestyles are not conducive to sustaining health into the modern lifespan. Minimal physical activity in work and play. An overabundance of processed food. Chronic stress. Limited sleep. Loneliness. Where does this leave us?
Falls are the leading cause of injury and injury-related death among adults 65 and older. Chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, insomnia, and mental illness account for 90% of healthcare costs. 6 out of 10 adults have at least one chronic condition, and 4 out of 10 have two or more.
The statistics on falls and chronic disease are staggering. But do you know what's even more shocking?
Falls and chronic disease are PREVENTABLE.
How? By modifying the home environment to improve accessibility and safety without compromising aesthetics. By cultivating a lifestyle that promotes vitality and well-being. At Health In Habit, we empower you to build simple daily habits around the 6 pillars of lifestyle medicine: Nutrition. Physical activity. Sleep hygiene. Stress management. Social connectedness. Avoidance of risky substances.
Aging in place is about more than installing grab bars or ADA guidelines. Your plan must consider your unique needs, health status, and goals.
Let’s work together to implement a plan that will enable you to stay home. To stay healthy. To stay engaged with loved ones, your community, and the activities you love to do.
Let’s create Health In Habit.
