Bio
Since 2006, Laura has been dedicated to the field of occupational therapy, working in various healthcare settings such as hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, and home health. In 2009, she expanded her skill set by becoming a lymphedema specialist and most recently she expanded her skill set again and received her personal trainer certificate through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. As an occupational therapist, her primary motivation has always been to make a positive difference in people's lives. Laura is passionate about helping individuals overcome challenges associated with disabilities and illnesses, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives and engage in activities that are meaningful to them. This commitment to improving the well-being of others has been the driving force behind her career in occupational therapy and why she created DRM Wellness to help improve the lives of those in the Omaha community. Several years ago, Laura noticed a growing disconnect in healthcare between preventative care and traditional rehabilitation. While preventative rehabilitation aims to proactively address potential health issues and mitigate the development of physical ailments through education and lifestyle adjustments, the introduction of rehab for physical and occupational therapy often occurs reactively, after an individual has already experienced an injury or impairment. This disparity highlights the need for a more cohesive approach to healthcare that integrates preventative measures with early intervention strategies. By bridging this gap, Laura and her company hope to work towards a more holistic system that can emphasize both the prevention and treatment of physical conditions, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes and a higher quality of life for her patients and her community.
