About
A bold Occupational Therapist with neurodivergent thinking in pursuit of enhancing meaningful human connection.
Bio
My first 5 years as a licensed OT left me feeling a variety of emotions - I felt excited, confused, eager, happy, courageous, grateful, tired, cranky, hungry - You name it, I was feeling it. As I started to think about my future professional goals, I was feeling more frustrated with unrealistic productivity expectations, insurance denials for equipment, and low pay for the work I was actually contributing. I was honored to have worked with such knowledgeable and skilled team of clinicians to learn from. Unfortunately my body and brain were guiding me in a different direction. I then realized what I was experiencing was burn out due to lack of intrinsic motivation and that my current role was not the right fit for me. I decided to explore other roles and settings.
I took some time for reflection, hired a career coach, and had support from family and friends - I finally gained clarity on the direction I thought I wanted to take my professional career to go. After a few more learning experiences with incredible clinicians, what I learned that my neurodivergent way of thinking wasn't made to fit in a box, and I needed more freedom to practice Occupational Therapy in my own way. I needed more creative expression to take place without the constraints of management, insurance , and agency policies.
After working in the biomedical model, I see barriers people with disabilities and vulnerable populations are faced with on a daily basis. Insurance is just another obstacle to climb over, and I am honored to work alongside my clients and advocate for their needs. I always strive to advocate and educate my clients to make informed opinions about their own health journey with a focus on the mind, body, and soul connection. My goal is to teach autonomy and self-resilience for people recovering from injury and to thrive with disabilities.
My ethos is grounded in connection, meaning, creativity, and curiosity about how the sensory system impacts every part of our being. I complete a thorough initial evaluation that includes a strength based method approach to gain insight into a person's full biopsychosocial history. I also use modified motivational interviewing to explore a persons daily routine, leisure interests, hobbies and values to develop a collaborative treatment plan.
